Sustainable Development Goals

ADRA's holistic and integrated approach to its programs is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as we seek to bring a collective focus to the way we contribute to greater well-being in the lives of the women, men and children we serve.

This concept of well-being is the basis of ADRA's work. We believe that people were created to thrive in the plurality of their dimensions - physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual - and that well-being is the process of experiencing them fully. By empowering others to live their lives to the full and achieve the goals they value, they become able to pass on that same empowerment to others, thus establishing a transformative change in the well-being of individuals and communities over the long term.

Through community programs, ADRA seeks to establish this holistic well-being. This involves developing and implementing sustainable, community-led projects that support each of the 17 SDGs, three of which are central to ADRA's collective work: SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 3 (Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Thanks to our unique network structure, we at ADRA are not only able to report the impact of individual projects on any specific SDG, but we are also committed to recording the collective impact of our entire network through these three main SDGs that are most relevant to us.

End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, at all ages.

Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Love is who you talk to.

ADRA's greatest partner is you.

Thanks to you, communities around the world are experiencing real and lasting change. Your advocacy promotes justice, your prayers bring compassion and your support puts love into action when it's needed most.

Partner Organizations

ADRA's mission is to serve humanity so that everyone can live as God intended. To reach a world in need as effectively as possible, we seek strong and equitable relationships with community and grassroots organizations, ensuring that our work directly impacts those who need it most.

We also rely on invaluable partnerships with governmental and non-governmental organizations - at all levels - to promote lasting change in the countries where we operate. For a full list of our partners, see our Annual Report.

United Nations

For decades, ADRA has maintained a strong partnership with United Nations agencies. By supporting UN initiatives and implementing programs on the ground, ADRA and the UN work together to meet the needs of the world's poorest. Through our participation in the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), we take part in discussions on innovative thinking and sustainable development.

Over the years, ADRA has established partnerships with WFP, UNHCR, WHO, UNICEF and other UN agencies. Together, we reached 2,441,270 people around the world in 2016 alone.

Government partnerships

ADRA establishes partnerships with public organizations that play a key role in fulfilling our mission. By joining forces with government aid agencies and humanitarian organizations around the world, ADRA expands its reach and deepens its capacity.
ADRA International's partnerships cover emergency response and development projects in a variety of countries and sectors. ADRA receives support from the U.S. Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) and the U.S. Agency for International Development's Food for Peace program (USAID FFP).

With the ongoing support of our partners, ADRA responds to people living in poverty and vulnerability, promoting real change through responsible action.

Committed to responsibility

At ADRA, we remain committed to implementing a high standard of transparency and financial accountability in our business practices, as well as in the design of our programs. ADRA Mozambique's annual and financial reports are available and provide an overview of the global impact of our worldwide network.

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the global humanitarian organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Founded in 1956 as the Seventh-day Adventist Welfare Service and renamed ADRA in 1984, the agency has a long and successful history of providing humanitarian aid and implementing development initiatives.
Learn more about our history

Through an international network, ADRA provides humanitarian and development assistance to people in more than 130 countries, regardless of their ethnicity, political affiliation or religion. By partnering with communities, organizations and governments, ADRA is able to improve the quality of life for millions of people.

In 2015, spending on ADRA's programs totaled US$ 190 million, made possible by private contributions from individuals like you, companies, foundations and other entities. We also obtain funding and products from governmental and intergovernmental organizations, such as USAID and the United Nations.

ADRA does not proselytize. The love of God in ADRA's programs is expressed when it reaches out to those in need, regardless of race, gender, political or religious affiliation. We work in harmony with a wide range of cultures, traditions and people of other religions, respecting the human dignity of all. The positive impact of ADRA's contribution globally validates our heritage and belief in generosity, as well as introducing the Adventist name to communities.

We receive a large number of requests from university students to take part in interviews, surveys or study projects. Although we respond to these requests whenever possible, our team is very busy and cannot respond to every request. ADRA has offices in more than 130 countries, so in some cases it may be more appropriate or useful to contact the ADRA office closest to you.

various methods of transportation to get the aid to the beneficiaries - a boat in the

Your donation

Yes, we accept donations. To donate to ADRA through workplace campaigns, such as the United Way or the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), please indicate the ADRA number #10654 on your company's form.

Yes. ADRA International is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. Donations are deductible from income tax and inheritance tax. Tax deductibility applies only to donations made by individuals and corporations that file a U.S. income tax return. Anyone who makes a qualified donation directly to ADRA will receive a receipt from ADRA after each donation and an annual tax return. If you make a donation through the United Way, the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) or through your local church, you will not be able to receive receipts from ADRA, as donations come to us from these organizations in one lump sum and donor names are kept confidential.

Cash donations are the best option, as they allow ADRA to immediately buy the necessary items for the survivors. Most essential relief products are purchased in-country to get them to the disaster zone quickly and to help stimulate the local economy. We do not accept donations of materials.

Make an emergency donation

ADRA has offices in more than 130 countries, so you can make your donation in your local currency. Donations to ADRA International made in foreign currencies are subject to variable exchange rates and, in some cases, bank processing fees.

In most circumstances, ADRA does not have the capacity to accept material donations. Often, unsolicited goods, such as used clothing and canned food, clog up transportation routes, preventing supplies from being released at ports. You might consider selling the item and donating the proceeds to ADRA.

Your church keeps all donations confidential. We receive donations made through churches in one lump sum, without individual donor information, so we cannot issue receipts or provide donation reports. If you would like to receive a receipt from ADRA, you can mail your donation, donate by phone at 1.800.424.ADRA (2372) or donate online at any time at ADRA.org/donate.

Children are the main beneficiaries of our programs, which are designed to benefit entire communities rather than focusing on individuals. ADRA has therefore chosen not to sponsor children.
