Up until the first semester of this year alone, the district of Boane registered more than 1,397 cases of elementary school pupils dropping out of school, according to data revealed by the Boane District Service for Education, Youth and Technology (SDEJT) at a meeting held with the ADRA team.
According to Castigo Daniel Cuamba, District Director of the Boane SDEJT, these figures have tended to reduce significantly over the last four years due to the interventions of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), such as ADRA, which has been providing assistance with school meals, which has encouraged retention and better educational achievement.<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Social and economic factors are at the root of the high rate of school dropouts, a fact that is also corroborated by some families in the community of Estevel, in the town of Gueguegue, in the district of Boane.
\n \nFor example, Felizberto Mahlari, one of the parents and guardians of two school-age children (13 to 15 years old), <\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

says he can't afford to put his son through secondary school.\n Juli\u00e3o Novele, Director of the Estevel Complete Primary School (EPC), told the ADRA team that the cases of school dropouts are a concern for the school management, teachers and the community, for example, \"this EPC has enrolled around 585 students for the current school year, of whom 298 <\/b><\/i><\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

boys and 287 girls. Of this number, around 24 students, corresponding to 4.1% of those enrolled, dropped out in the first semester of this year alone, so this worries us.\"<\/i><\/b>\n
It should be noted that the district of Boane has enrolled around 79,197 pupils in primary education for the current school year, of which 1,000 have been transferred and the remaining 1,397 have dropped out.
