Between June 10th and 14th, the communities of Quissimajulo and Baixo Pinda, in the districts of\ndistricts of Nacala-Porto and Memba, respectively, received a visit from the\nBlue Action Fund (BAF) donor team. This visit was part of\nof the project \"Coastal Lifeline - A provincial approach to the empowerment of fishing communities\nempowerment of fishing and farming communities for the adoption of nature-based solutions in Mozambique\".\nnature-based solutions in Mozambique\", also known as Wilipihera,\nwhich means Resilience in Emakwa.<\/span><\/p>

The main objective of the Wilipihera project is to promote the\nadoption of Ecosystem-Based Adaptation (EbA) and Disaster Risk Reduction approaches in 10 fishing-farming\nDisaster Risk Reduction in 10 fishing-farming communities in the districts of Memba, Mogincual\ndistricts of Memba, Mogincual, Nacala-Porto and Ilha de Mo\u00e7ambique. These\nsustainable practices of small-scale fishing and family farming are\nsector agriculture are essential for strengthening the environmental and economic resilience of local\ncommunities, guaranteeing the sustainability of natural resources and\nimproving people's living conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the five-day visit, the Blue Action Fund,\nhad the opportunity to visit the Community Fishing Councils (CCP) and the vegetable\nvegetable fields set up as part of the project. This visit\nto take a closer look at the initiatives and the progress made so far,\nas well as interacting with the project's beneficiaries, gaining a better understanding of their needs and expectations.\ntheir needs and expectations.<\/span><\/p>The visit also included meetings with the District Government and other key\nkey implementing partners, where strategies were discussed to\nalign the project's activities with the government's priorities in the marine and coastal\nadaptation based on the marine and coastal ecosystem. <\/span>\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

These meetings were\nto ensure that the project's efforts are in line with local and national\nlocal and national policies, promoting balanced and sustainable development in Mozambique's coastal regions.\ndevelopment in Mozambique's coastal regions.<\/span><\/p>

Financed by the Blue Action Fund, the Wilipihera project is scheduled to last four years, from August 2023 to July 2027.\nfour years, from August 2023 to July 2027, and aims to directly benefit around 71,620 people in the\n71,620 people in the districts of Nacala-Porto, Memba,\nMogincual and Ilha de Mo\u00e7ambique. <\/span><\/p>

This funding is essential for\nimplementation of the planned activities, which include training local communities in\nlocal communities in ecosystem-based adaptation practices, the creation of\ninfrastructure to support sustainable fishing and agriculture, and the promotion of\ndisaster risk reduction strategies.<\/span><\/p>

Over the four years of the Wilipihera project,\nthe beneficiary communities are expected to develop a greater capacity to\nadapt to climate change, reducing their vulnerability to natural disasters and\ndisasters and improving their food and economic security.
