The project aims to ensure equitable and sustainable food and income security for vulnerable smallholder farmers, with a focus on those most affected by COVID-19 and natural disasters, through greater gender equity and inclusive agricultural livelihoods in the districts mentioned. In addition, the ZIREF project is strengthening the capacity of smallholder farmers to adapt, absorb and transform climate risks and natural disasters into food security, by increasing smart and resilient agriculture. In an approach of conservation agriculture and good practices

the project has been carrying out various activities, including: a) Establishing and strengthening farmer groups; b) Establishing a network of community extension service providers (through facilitators from the School in Machamba do Camponês); c) Transferring inputs to vulnerable farmers and beyond. Likewise, 50 farmers' groups have been trained, 25 savings groups have been set up and 17 community-based committees for natural disaster management have been established in Mocuba and Maganja da Costa.
