Water Kiosk

"In the past, we used to fetch water from rivers and wells," says Benjamina Pedro, in the district of Mocuba

Mrs. Benjamina Pedro (52 years old) lives in Bairro CFM in the district of Mocuba, Zambezia province. Benjamina is the mother of five children and supports her family by selling food.

As a beneficiary and user of the Kiosks established by ADRA in 2018, Mrs. Benjamina tells us that before the existence of the Kiosks, most of the residents of the CFM neighborhood sought water from rivers and traditional wells. However, the water from the rivers always made them sick, while the wells dried up whenever the summer season approached.
"In the old days, we fetched water from rivers and neighbors' wells. The river water gave us diarrhea, but we still used it for drinking and cooking because we had no choice, and we took our clothes to the river to wash them." He said

In recent years, the Mocuba district has been seen as the epicenter of water-borne diseases, with the main cause being the consumption of untreated water, which is why ADRA Mozambique set up the Water Kiosks in the Mocuba district.

"Since ADRA set up the water kiosks, our lives have improved here in the community. Today we have access to treated water for drinking, cooking and washing dishes; we also have access to other services provided by the Kiosks such as RECARGAKI services for buying CREDELEC, the sale of sanitary towels, soap, among other things." Benjamina added.

The initiative to set up the ADRA Water Kiosks project in the Mocuba district is a mechanism to respond to the demand for the precious liquid, as well as to reduce the rates of water-borne diseases in that part of the country.

"The Kiosks have helped us and continue to help us, so we would like to thank ADRA and its partners for this gesture. We have information that the Kiosks will be handed over to the management of the Municipality, and so we would also like to appeal to the Municipality to continue to take care of these Kiosks so as not to come into conflict with the community." Benjamina appealed.
