Luísa José Alfeu (23 years old) lives in Bairro Samora Machel, Nedegudo Community, Mocuba District. Luísa is the mother of two children, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-month-old boy, and has been a beneficiary of ADRA's Water Kiosks since they were set up in 2019:

"Before ADRA installed the water kiosks here in the Samora Machel neighborhood, our lives were very difficult, we had to wake up very early and travel long distances in search of drinking water." I said.

"We drank water from the Licungo River and from traditional wells. We would wake up at around 3 a.m. to 4 a.m. to fetch water from the river. Worst of all, we drank even though we knew the water could make us sick, but we had no alternatives." He added.

In 2017, ADRA Mozambique, with funds from ADRA International, installed three solar-powered water kiosks in the district of Mocuba, costing around 90,000 US dollars. These kiosks supply around 30,000 liters of drinking water a day to around 5,000 households in the CFM, Samora Machel and 25 de Setembro neighbourhoods in the city of Mocuba.

"Since ADRA set up these water kiosks in 2018 here in the Samora Machel neighborhood, our lives have improved. We're happy because the water we consume now is treated with purifiers and is clean. We buy each 20-liter drum for just 3 MT, and this has helped us a lot. We can only thank ADRA for this initiative. But we would like to ask them to expand the kiosks to other neighborhoods so that other residents can also have access to this precious liquid." Luísa concluded.
